Hollywood star John Krasinski admits that he was ‘’very nervous’’ while directing real-life wife Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place. The actor’s directorial debut that saw him star alongside Blunt was well received by both audiences and the critics.
The 38-year-old actor revealed he was most anxious about working with the 35-year-old star because he didn’t want her to think he was rubbish at his day job. He told Heat magazine: ‘’It was a terrifying prospect at first. I was very nervous about directing her because you want to look confident and be able to impress the person you love with your work. You don’t want to let that person down or make them feel that maybe you’re not as talented as they might have hoped!’’
Krasinski, who made a name for himself in the TV series The Office, shares two daughters with Blunt. He says he didn’t realise how ‘’incredibly talented’’ his partner was until they worked together.
“I don’t think I knew how incredibly talented Emily was until I started directing and acting with her in the movie. I remember one day when I was looking for editing space and I bumped into [director] Rob Marshall, who was in the process of editing my little indie movie Mary Poppins Returns ... I told Rob I was going to be directing Emily and he told me, ‘You won’t know how good she is until you’re on the set with her and watching her reactions and acting with her. That’s when you’re going to discover how great she is!’”
Krasinski also said superstar George Clooney taught him that the key to being a good director is ensuring that one is working with a good script. Clooney shared the advice when the pair worked on Leatherheads in 2008, reported Contactmusic.
“George taught me the importance of a good script. He said that, as a director, you can always make a bad movie out of a good script, but you can never make a good movie out of a bad script. I agree with him. You have to be willing to devote a few years of your life to getting the script done,” Krasinski said.
George said that you need to believe that you have your own specific take on a project and that you can bring something to directing the film that no one else can,” Krasinski said.
