Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh takes on the role of the eponymous rockstar, hailed as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’, in the trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila, dropped by Netflix on Thursday.

In the two-minute-26-second long trailer, viewers catch a glimpse of Dosanjh embodying the persona of Amar Singh Chamkila, often hailed as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’. Parineeti Chopra essays the role of Chamkila’s wife and singing partner Amarjot in the film.
With his charismatic presence and electrifying energy, Dosanjh brings to life the essence of the legendary singer, captivating audiences with the story of Chamkila's rise to fame and his eventual demise at a young age. The trailer shows how a young Amar Singh transitioned from a worker at a sock-manufacturing company to a popular folk singer.
However, the fame brought with it fervent criticism because of the vulgar lyrics of Chamkila’s songs. Soon there were violent protests against the young singer across Punjab, ultimately leading to his untimely death.
Imtiaz Ali immerses viewers in the authentic atmosphere of Punjab’s rustic villages — from the lively akhadas, where Chamkila's voice once resonated, to the bustling streets filled with the pulse of folk music. Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman has composed the soundtrack of the film.
Amar Singh Chamkila will premiere on Netflix on April 12.
