Diljit Dosanjh recently opened up about filming Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila’s death scene for Imtiaz Ali-helmed biographical drama in a podcast with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia.

A short clip shared by Ranveer on social media on Wednesday shows Diljit recalling the shooting of the scene for his upcoming movie Amar Singh Chamkila.

Asked if he could feel Chamkila’s energy on set, Diljit replied, “Hundred per cent, I could feel it,” and went on to talk about his experience of filming Chamkila’s assassination. “Humne wahi shoot kiya jaha Chamkile ko mara gaya tha (We shot exactly at the place where Chamkila was murdered).”

During the shoot, Diljit fell on the spot where Chamkila had fallen after being shot, holding a tumbi in his hand. One of the tumbi strings struck his fingers as he fell and he could see blood on his hand, making him realise that it must have been the spot where Chamkila’s blood was spilled.

The full-length podcast, available on Ranveer’s YouTube channel, delves into Diljit’s personal journey from childhood. The Naina singer talks about the disconnection he experienced when his parents sent him from his village to the city with his uncle.

In the video, the 40-year-old singer acknowledges the importance of Punjabi in his life and his music. He also discusses how yoga has changed his perception of the world.

Further, Diljit boasts about his cooking skills. He goes on to express his views on the enthralling power of music that drives both him and his audience during concerts.

Amar Singh Chamkila will also star Parineeti Chopra as the legendary singer’s wife and singing partner Amarjot. A.R. Rahman has composed the music for the film, slated to premiere on Netflix on April 12.
