Akshay Kumar is set to play renowned lawyer and statesman C. Sankaran Nair in a yet-untitled film slated for March 14 release next year, makers Dharma Productions announced on Friday.
The historical drama will also feature R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday in important roles.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is inspired by real-life events and adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The book focuses on one of the most significant legal battles in India's colonial history, highlighting C. Sankaran Nair’s efforts to challenge British authorities over the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
In an official statement, Dharma Productions emphasised the historical weight of the film: “The untitled film on the shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India’s top barrister C. Sankaran Nair to fight an unprecedented battle against the British Empire. The film is inspired from real life events and adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire.”
“An untold story. An unheard truth. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan & Ananya Panday — this untitled film is releasing in cinemas on 14th March, 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi,” Dharma Productions wrote in the caption on social media.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar made a cameo appearance in Amar Kaushik’s blockbuster Stree 2, which released on August 15. The actor was also part of the ensemble cast of Mudassar Aziz’s comedy film Khel Khel Mein, which also released on Independence Day. Akshay will next be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, slated to release on November 1.
Ananya Panday is currently basking in the success of her Prime Video series Call Me Bae. She also headlined Vikramaditya Motwane’s tech thriller CTRL, which released on Netflix earlier this month. R. Madhavan was last seen in Vikas Bahl’s horror thriller Shaitaan, also starring Ajay Devgn and Jyotika.
