Dhanush’s second directorial venture Raayan is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 23, the streamer announced on Friday, sharing a poster of the film on Instagram.
“Raayan has a purpose to fulfil and justice to seek. #RaayanOnPrime, Aug 23,” wrote the streaming platform.
Also starring S. J. Suryah, Selvaraghavan, Kalidas Jayaram, and Sundeep Kishan, the action thriller that released theatrically on July 26 follows Kathavaraayan (Dhanush), a fast-food hotel owner in North Chennai, who strives to protect his family when they inadvertently get entangled in a war between two rival gangs.
Actors Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Saravanan also play key roles in the film.
First announced in January last year, Raayan is produced under the banner of Sun Pictures. The film has been given an A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for excessive violence and gore.
While A.R. Rahman has composed the soundtrack for the movie, Om Prakash has worked on its cinematography.
Upon its release, Raayan minted over Rs 150 crore worldwide, emerging as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and the highest-grossing A-rated Tamil film of all time.
On the work front, Dhanush is set to portray Ilaiyaraaja in Arun Matheswaran’s upcoming biopic, based on the life of the legendary music composer.
