Things have started hotting up in south film industries lately, keeping social media abuzz over the week with news of upcoming movies, apart from the first look and teasers of big-banner films like Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, Nagarjuna’s The Ghost and Chiyaan Vikram’s Cobra,
Here’re some eagerly anticipated projects from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries that will hit the theatres in coming days.
Naane Varuven (Tamil)
Two first-look posters of Dhanush’s upcoming film Naane Varuven have been unveiled. The superstar sports a clean-shaven look in one poster and is shown with a full beard in the other.
Billed as an action thriller, the plot revolves around two lookalikes. Helmed by Selvaraghavan, the film is currently in the post-production stage. The film also stars Indhuja Ravichandran, Elli AvrRam and Yogi Babu.
Pathonpatham Noottandu (Malayalam)
The official trailer of Siju Wilson’s upcoming Malayalam period drama Pathonpatham Noottandu has come out. Wilson plays Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, a Ezhava warrior who fought against the oppression of lower-caste people by upper castes in 19th-century Kerala.
Directed by Vinayan, the action-packed trailer is billed as an Onam release, though the makers are yet to announce the exact date. The epic drama also features Anoop Menon, Chemban Vinod, Indrans, Kayadu Lohar, Gokulam Gopalan and Sudev Nair.
Uttarakaanda (Kannada)
Kannada superstar Dhananjaya, also known as Daali, has revealed the first-look posters of his upcoming gangster drama, Uttarakaanda. The posters show the actor taking puffs from a cigar and a beedi at the same time. His blood-stained hands are also prominent.
Directed by Rohit Padaki and produced by KRG Studios, the gangster drama will showcase the protagonist’s rags-to-riches journey.
Dasara (Telugu)
The release date and first poster of superstar Nani’s upcoming film Dasara have been announced. Helmed by Srikanth Odela, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh opposite Nani and marks the reunion of the lead pair after Nenu Local (2017).
The poster shows Nani in a rugged look and has Silk Smitha’s portrait in the backdrop. The film also features Rohan Mathew, Sai Kumar and Zarina Wahab. Dasara is produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri.
Bakasuran (Tamil)
The official trailer of veteran Tamil actor Selvaraghavan’s upcoming film Bakasuran has come out, promising an emotional rollercoaster as the story follows the lives of several individuals in a lawless environment.
Written and directed by Mohan G, the film is based on true events and has Nataraja Subramani in the lead role alongside Selvaraghavan.
It also features Radharavi, Rajan K, Rams, Saravanan Subbiah, D Gunanithi, Tharakshi, Mansoor Ali Khan, Devadharshini and P L Thennappan.
Palthu Janwar (Malayalam)
Bhavana Studios has released the official trailer of Basil Joseph’s upcoming comedy-drama Palthu Janwar. The movie will hit the theatres on September 2.
The film will depict the state of farm animals in Kerala and government officials assigned to look after the poultry and cattle industry, exploring the relationship between humans, nature and animals.
Apart from Joseph, the film, directed by debutant Sangeeth P Rajan, also features Indrans, Johny Antony, Dileesh Pothan, Shammy Thilakan, Sruthy Suresh and Unnimaya Prasad.
