Dhanush to headline biopic of musical maestro Ilaiyaraaja

Dhanush will portray the role of Ilaiyaraaja in a biopic named after the legendary music composer, announced the Tamil star on social media, unveiling the first-look poster of the film on Wednesday.

Helmed by Arun Matheswaran, who recently directed Dhanush in Captain Miller, the biopic promises to delve into the life and legacy of Ilaiyaraaja, who will be scoring music for the film jointly produced by Connekkt Media, PK Prime Production, and Mercuri Movie.

In the first-look poster, a young Dhanush is seen with a bag on his shoulder, staring into the uncertain future. The poster also captures the essence of Chennai of yesteryears, evoking nostalgia about the city formerly known as Madras.

The poster-launch event, held in Chennai, was attended by the who’s who of the Tamil film industry, including Kamal Haasan, Vetri Maaran, Gangai Amaren and Bharathiraja.

With a repertoire comprising over 7,000 songs in multiple Indian languages and scores for more than 1,000 films, Ilaiyaraaja has made an indelible impression on the Indian music industry. The composer has received accolades, including five National Film Awards and the prestigious Padma Bhushan, from different quarters, during a career that spans almost 50 years.
