Paramount Global has dropped the trailer for Dexter: Original Sin, an upcoming prequel series that dives into Dexter Morgan’s dark journey from a seemingly ordinary young man to the titular serial killer in the original series.
“The Morgans are home for the holidays 🩸📺 Dexter: Original Sin premieres December 13 on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan. 🔪 #DexterOriginalSin,” the official handle of the show posted on X alongside the one-minute-46-second trailer.
Narrated by Michael C. Hall, who reprises his role as Dexter’s inner voice, the trailer provides a glimpse into the formative years of Dexter’s life. Set in 1991 Miami, the series introduces a younger Dexter (Patrick Gibson) grappling with his burgeoning homicidal instincts. Under the mentorship of his father, Harry Morgan (Christian Slater), Dexter begins to shape his notorious Code — a set of rules designed to ensure he only targets those who ‘deserve’ it.
The trailer skillfully connects Dexter: Original Sin with Dexter: New Blood, splicing in key moments from the previous series finale. Fans see Dexter lying in the snow after being shot by his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), and presumed dead. However, a brief scene reveals Dexter being rushed to an emergency room, with his life flashing before his eyes.
The series boasts an impressive cast including Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and special guest stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Dempsey.
Dexter: Original Sin premieres on December 13 on Paramount+ and will air on Showtime starting December 15.
