More than seven months after its theatrical release, Dev-starrer Bagha Jatin, a biopic on freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay, is set for its world TV premiere on Star Jalsha, the channel has announced on social media.
“The story of the life and heroism of the Bengali revolutionary Jatindranath. Coming to television for the first time. Bagha Jatin only on Star Jalsha,” the official handle of the channel posted on X alongside a 10-second teaser.
Helmed by Arun Roy, Bagha Jatin depicted how Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay played a crucial role in the Indian independence movement between 1906 and 1915. Also starring Sreeja Dutta, Sudipta Chakraborty, Shoaib Kabeer, Rohaan Bhattacharjee, Carl A. Harte and Alexandra Taylor in pivotal roles, Bagha Jatin released in theatres on October 20.
The period drama released alongside Srijit Mukherji’s Dawshom Awbotaar, Shiboprosad Mukherjee-Nandita Roy’s Raktabeej and Arindam Sil’s Jongole Mitin Mashi.
Bagha Jatin is the second historical drama that Dev has headlined. The Pradhan actor had previously starred in Dhrubo Banerjee’s Golondaaj (2021), a much-acclaimed biopic on Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the father of Indian football. Arun Roy, on the other hand, is known for directing period films like Egaro (2011), Hiralal (2018) and 8/12 (2022).
Dev was last seen in Avijit Sen’s Pradhan where he played the role of a no-nonsense cop taking on corrupt politicians in a village. Currently busy in the Lok Sabha elections, Dev will next be seen in Srijit Mukherji’s Tekka, scheduled to release during Durga Puja this year. He will also play the lead role in Soojit Dutta’s Khadaan.
