With Durga Puja around the corner, a slew of movies are set to hit cinemas. Here’s everything you need to know about this week’s Bengali, Hindi, English, Tamil and Kannada theatrical releases.
Tekka (Bengali)

Srijit Mukherji’s Tekka is a hostage thriller starring Dev in the lead role. The story follows Iqlakh (Dev), a jobless man from a humble background who kidnaps a young girl in a desperate attempt to grab public attention. As a team of cops led by Maya (Rukmini Maitra) negotiate with him, Iqlakh’s son is taken hostage by Ira (Swastika Mukherjee), the mother of the kidnapped girl.
Bohurupi (Bengali)

Set in the fictional village of Chhyanchrapur in West Bengal, Bohurupi is billed as an action chase drama revolving around Bikram (Shiboprosad Mukherjee), a Bohurupi artist who turns into a bank dacoit. Abir Chatterjee plays Sumanta Ghoshal, a cop trying to nab Bikram. Koushani Mukherjee plays Bikram’s wife, who is also a small-time pickpocket. RItabhari rounds out the cast as Sumanta’s wife.
Shastri (Bengali)

Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy reunite on the big screen after 14 years for Pathikrit Basu’s Shastri, based on the short story Dolgobinda Babur Choshma written by Debarati Mukhopadhyay. The film is based on the theme of science versus astrology, with Mithun playing the role of an astrologer. Soham plays an activist who promotes rational thinking. Shastri also features Kanchan Mullick, Kaushik Sen, Anirban Chakrabarti, Rajatava Dutta, Sauraseni Maitra and Ambarish Bhattacharya in key roles.
Vettaiyan (Tamil, Hindi)
