Freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay’s biopic Bagha Jatin will be releasing in theatres on October 20, Tollywood star Dev, who will be playing the titular role in the Arun Roy-helmed movie, announced on Friday.
"In a world dominated by oppression and tyranny, destruction looms inevitably. However, all it takes is one courageous saviour to put an end to these atrocities. For the first time ever, we bring you the immortal tale of India's beloved son, Bagha Jatin, on the grand cinema screen,” Dev wrote on Twitter.
“On the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja and Navratri, we proudly present 'Bagha Jatin', the biggest production to date by Dev Entertainment Ventures, coming soon to theaters," his tweet further read.
This will be the second historical drama that Dev will be part of. The Kishmish actor had previously starred in Dhrubo Banerjee’s Golondaaj (2021), the much-acclaimed biopic of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the father of Indian football. Arun Roy, who is helming Bagha Jatin, is known for directing period films like Egaro (2011), Hiralal (2018) and 8/12 (2022).
Dev will next be seen in Birsa Dasgupta’s Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo, for which he will be slipping into the character of the iconic detective created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. Slated to release on August 11, the film features Rukmini Maitra as Byomkesh’s wife Satyabati and Ambarish Bhattacharya as his companion Ajit Bandyopadhyay.
