Pratik Gandhi plays a common man running from pillar to post to regain possession of his ancestral land in a bid to pay dowry for his younger sister’s wedding in the official trailer of filmmaker Pulkit’s upcoming social drama Dedh Bigha Zameen, dropped by JioCinema on Thursday.
The one-minute-50-second-long trailer begins with a conversation between Pratik’s character and his sister’s soon-to-be in-laws. While Pratik says he is excited for his sister getting married into a nice family, the in-laws are more concerned about the dowry. After promising that he will offer Rs 20 lakh in cash, jewellery and a car of their choice, he goes to great lengths to collect the money by selling off a 1.5 acre land his father purchased.
However, he soon learns that the land in question is in possession of a land grabber. Pratik’s character embarks on a journey to battle the corrupted system for the sake of his sister’s happiness.
If the police and the judiciary do not provide any help, where would the common man go? This is the question that prevails throughout the trailer. “Wohi karenge jo karte aaye hai. Haalat se ladhenge, kanoon se ladhenge, vyavasta se ladhenge (We will do what we have always done. We will fight against the circumstances, we will fight against the law, we will fight against the system),” Pratik tells his wife, played by Khushali Kumar, in the video.
The trailer ends with emotional scenes of Pratik accumulating the dowry amount for his sister’s wedding with unwavering determination.
“Sometimes standing against the wrong is more important than defeating it”. Toh chaliye #EkAwaazGalatKeKhilaaf uthate hai,” JioCinema wrote alongside the video shared on Instagram.
Directed by Bhakshak helmer Pulkit and produced by Shaailesh R Singh, Suunil Jain and Hitesh Thakkar, Dedh Bigha Zameen will hit JioCinema on May 31.
