Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has dropped fresh behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of his recently released superhero film featuring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Channing Tatum, Wesley Snipes, Dafne Keen and Jennifer Garner. Here’s a look.
Sharing a monochrome still of the six actors, Levy recalled how they had traveled to England a week ahead of their filming schedule to perfect their fight choreography. However, just a day before shooting was set to begin, an actors’ strike caused a halt in the industry, sending everyone back home. Undeterred, these actors returned as soon as filming resumed and performed at an exceptional level. “Honored to bring these characters to the big screen, and lucky to call them friends,” Levy wrote.
Channing Tatum and Wesley Snipes make cameo appearances in the superhero film, which has already earned over Rs 110 crore in India since its July 26 release. Tatum plays the charismatic Cajun mutant, Gambit, sporting a stylish haircut and a holographic armour. Snipes reprises his role as Blade from MCU’s Blade franchise.
A candid shot shows Reynolds (Deadpool) sharing a moment of mirth with Levy and Garner. Garner reprises her role as Elektra, the sai-wielding assassin, in the film. Garner originally played Elektra in Ben Affleck’s 2003 Daredevil movie from 20th Century Fox and headlined her own Elektra spin-off in 2005. The recently released Deadpool & Wolverine, however, enabled her to bid a proper goodbye to her character.
Actress Dafne Keen reprises her role as Wolverine’s daughter Laura from the 2017 film Logan. She joins Deadpool and Wolverine as they take on Cassandra Nova.
Tatum’s Gambit flips a stack of cards in the picture. In 2015, a solo Gambit film starring Tatum was first announced. However, the project was eventually shelved following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. Tatum ultimately portrayed the character in MCU’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Snipes originally played Blade in Stephen Norrington’s 1998 American superhero film of the same name. Blade is a Dhampir, a human with the strength of vampires but not their weaknesses. The 1998 film was followed by two sequels, Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004).
