Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s latest Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine has become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time with a total collection of USD 1.086 billion at the global box office, the makers announced on Friday.

“Thanks for making Marvel Studios’ first R-rated movie the biggest of all time,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a statement. “It’s fantastic to see that audiences are loving this movie as much as we all loved making it. All those conversations were worth it,” he added.

The 2019 film Joker was previously the biggest R-rated movie globally. The Todd Phillips directorial starring Joaquin Phoenix held the record for almost four years.

Deadpool & Wolverine, a Shawn Levy directorial, is the first R-rated MCU film ever. It revolves around Deadpool (Reynolds) who lives a mundane life until the Time Variance Authority recruits him to save his universe from destruction due to Wolverine's (Jackman) untimely demise. Teaming up with a Wolverine from an alternate universe, Deadpool embarks on a multiverse adventure filled with action, comedy and unexpected alliances, ultimately facing Charles Xavier’s evil twin Cassandra Nova to secure the fate of their reality.

Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, alongside returning Deadpool cast members Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar.

Produced by Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner, Deadpool & Wolverine hit theatres worldwide on July 26.
