Friends of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joined the couple and their children at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor to celebrate the first birthday of their daughter. A birthday picnic was organised for the family and the guests on Saturday, June 4.
Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who is named after Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana, was born in the United States of America (USA). Since her birth, the young royal had not been to the UK and had not visited the royal side of her family. Harry and Meghan made a highly anticipated return to the UK last week as the country celebrated 70 years of the Queen’s reign.
The birthday celebration for Lilibet was an intimate affair. As she turned one, the toddler was photographed by a photographer and family friend, Misan Harriman. The photo of her wearing a pale blue frock and a lacy white bow is a rare public picture as her parents prefer to shield her and her older brother, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, from the limelight.
According to BBC, a spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed that Lilibet’s birthday cake was made by Claire Ptak, who had baked her parents’ wedding cake. The source also shared that over $100,000 worth of donations were made in the child’s honour to the non-profit World Central Kitchen.
It is not clear if members of the royal family were present on Lilibet’s birthday. Birthday wishes for the child were extended by the royal family over social media.
Prince William and Duchess Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, also wished their niece.
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, shared their wish over their official social media handles as well.
The longest ruling British monarch was finally able to meet her great-granddaughter on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee last week.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a public appearance on Friday, June 3. The last time the couple made a public appearance in the UK was at thanksgiving for the Queen at St. Paul's Cathedral in 2020.
