Netflix India has released the official teaser of Darlings starring Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma, Shefali Shah and Roshan Mathew, and it looks like a riveting thriller, dark but with a hint of comedy.

The streaming giant shared the teaser and tweeted, “Kya ek meindak aur bichhoo dost ho sakte hain? Darlings, watch on 5th August, only on Netflix.”

The one-minute-39-second teaser opens with Alia narrating a fable about a frog and a scorpion while a series of events plays out on the screen.

Alia and Vijay are together and like any other couple, they argue and express their affection for one another. Shefali, who plays Alia’s mother, appears to be friendly with Roshan Matthew’s character. While the women are very close, the men don’t get along very well. The teaser hints that they don’t see eye to eye and the narrative seems to imply that their animosity toward one another will result in disastrous consequences.

An implied murder involving both women is hinted at as the teaser concludes, and also the suggestion that the mother-daughter team may not be as straightforward as they look.

Earlier on Monday, Alia had shared a teaser which set the tone of the film. “thoda dark … thoda comedy DARLINGS teaser out TOMORROWS,” she had captioned the short video.
