Dahmer makers return with Netflix crime series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story; watch teaser here

Following the success of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan will return with their new Netflix crime series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on September 19, the streamer announced on Tuesday, sharing a teaser of the upcoming show.

“From the creators of DAHMER comes MONSTERS: THE LYLE AND ERIK MENENDEZ STORY. premiering September 19,” Netflix wrote on Instagram.

‘On August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered their parents’ flashes on the screen at the beginning of the teaser, which then shows the two brothers, armed with shotguns, entering the Beverly Hills mansion of José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez.

No dialogue is heard as the brothers step inside, with their weapons. The only other sound that breaks the silence is the fearful breathing of an unseen individual.

Netflix has expanded Ryan Murphy's Monster saga into an anthology series, with the latest instalment exploring the infamous Menendez brothers’ case.

In 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez brutally murdered their parents, José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez, shooting them a total of 16 times. Initially, the brothers deceived police with an alibi, claiming they were at a movie and festival. However, the extravagant spending of their inherited fortune raised suspicions.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez will play Lyle Menendez and Cooper Koch will take up the role of Erik Menendez in the upcoming Netflix show, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will be playing their parents.

Backed by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan as executive producers of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story alongside Javier Bardem, the Netflix series will be directed by Brennan, Carl Franklin, Max Winkler, Paris Barclay and Michael Uppendahl.
