Appreciation for his recent releases and daughter Shanaya Kapoor learning the ropes of Bollywood have landed actor Sanjay Kapoor “in the best phase” of his life.
“A lot changed since I did the TV serial Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara and my first web series Lust Stories. Television connected me to the world and the young and old appreciated me. The industry saw me and discovered an actor in me and started believing in me,” Sanjay, who starred in Mission Mangal and The Zoya Factor this year, told The Telegraph.
He recently shot for a short digital film Bedab in Delhi and Greece and will also soon be seen in a web series on Amazon.
His personal life is exciting too, as daughter Shanaya — another from the khandaan — gears up to make her mark in films.
“Shanaya is assisting director Sharan Sharma on Gunjan Saxena -The Kargil Girl, the biopic starring her cousin Janhvi. Shanaya has seen the whole family’s hurdles and ups and downs. I wanted her to experience that. Meanwhile she is also training for acting, dance and voice culture courses,” Sanjay said, adding that he wants his daughter to understand how films are made.
“One day she messaged me to say her sister was staying in another hotel while she was sharing rooms with the other assistants in another hotel. I told her that Janhvi is a star and this is her privilege.
“Later she messaged me that she gave a duplicate shot for Janhvi and had to wear the pilot’s suit in the heat. I told her that this was her job and a learning curve for her,” said Sanjay.
The actor is insistent that Shanaya learns the ground reality before turning an actor. “In this manner she will learn to appreciate everybody on the sets right from the spot boy who gives her fruits everyday to the other technicians with whom she will interact on a daily basis. Filmmaking is not a social business. There’s a lot of hard work involved and I want her to learn that and appreciate it the right way.”
Sanjay, however, has no plans to launch Shanaya just yet. “I am not sure about launching her. We are waiting for a good film,” he added.
