Prime Video has dropped a trailer for their upcoming series Cruel Intentions, a modern spin-off to the iconic 1999 cult classic of the same name, promising a tale of manipulation, seduction and betrayal.

Set in an elite college in Washington D.C, the two-minute-14-second-long trailer introduces us to the chaotic world of the step-siblings Caroline and Lucien, played by Sarah Katherine Hook and Zac Burgess, who stop at nothing to climb the social ladder. It shows them scheming to seduce the daughter of the US vice president, Annie Grover. However, the step-siblings are put in jeopardy after a scandal threatens to dismantle the hierarchical system at their college.

The step-siblings use seduction, deceit and manipulation to maintain their control, leveraging the vice president’s daughter as a pawn in their game. The trailer hints at high-stakes encounters, highlighting scenes of luxurious college life, heated confrontations and moral conflicts.

The original Cruel Intentions (1999) film is a modern adaptation of the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. Set in an elite high school in New York, the film follows step-siblings Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), who engage in a twisted game of seduction and manipulation. When Kathryn challenges Sebastian to seduce their headmaster’s daughter Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), they spiral into a complex web of betrayal and emotional chaos.

Sean Patrick Thomas, who played the young music teacher Ronald Clifford in the original film, will appear in a cameo role in the reboot series.

The eight-episode series is slated to hit Prime Video on November 21, with new episodes dropping every week.
