Coke Studio Bangla has released Bonobibi, a folk fusion performed by Bangladeshi rock band Meghdol and Jahura Baul, following the massive success of its second season opener Murir Tin.
The new song revolves around the mythical figure of Bonobibi, who is believed to be the guardian of forests and is worshipped as a deity by the people of the Sunderbans. It seamlessly blends the legend of ‘Khonar Bochon’ (parables of Khona) with folk music and lilting soft rock sounds.
“The song blends Bengali folk music and urban indie fusion. We wanted to give a magical experience to our listeners,” said Coke Bangla Studio curator and producer Shayan Chowdhury Arnob.
Eminent Bangladeshi artist S.M. Sultan’s artwork has also been used to decorate the set and make a strong pitch for conservation of nature. Composed and produced by Meghdol, the swaying melody is aided by the sound of traditional Bengali household items like dheki and kula, apart from familiar musical instruments like the drums and the guitar.
