Ghum Ghum, the tenth song of Coke Studio Bangla Season 2, pays a heartfelt tribute to legendary musician Lucky Akhand, who revolutionised the music scene in Bangladesh in the 1970s and served as an inspiration for contemporary rock bands. This new rendition, produced by Shuvendu Das Shuvo, marks the debut of singer Fairooz Nazifa in Coke Studio Bangla, accompanied by the skilled House Band.

Written by SM Hedayat, Ghum Ghum is a Lucky Akhand composition originally sung by Bangladeshi singer Shahnaz Rahmatullah for the film Ghuddi. The song marked her debut in the Bangladeshi music scene after her return from Pakistan, and it perfectly captured the spirit of youth and freedom of a newly independent Bangladesh.

The team at Coke Studio Bangla, led by Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, infuses the contemporary version of Ghum Ghum with today’s sounds and feel. A jazz vibe dominates the song as it opens with a captivating trombone prelude by Apurba Mustafa, setting the stage for a mellifluous nylon guitar piece by Shuvo. As the rhythm unfolds, the percussion section incorporates elements of swing and syncopation and Nazifa’s warm, husky voice evokes a nostalgic cabaret feel.
