Taking a leaf out of Jimi Hendrix’s book, Indo-Canadian rapper AP Dhillon recently smashed his guitar on stage after his performance at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, shows a video shared by him on Instagram on Monday.
At the beginning, the video shows Dhillon strumming his guitar along with Shinda Kahlon as fans groove to the beats of the music. The 31-year-old artist concludes his performance by smashing the instrument on stage before he makes his exit.
“BROWN MUNDE HAVE LEFT THE DESERT,” the Dil Nu singer captioned his post.
Dhillon’s decision to break his guitar on stage — once a routine made popular by rock stars like Hendrix and Pete Townsend — was slammed by netizens. “Respect the things which brought you to this stage. It’s completely your and your loss,” wrote one social media user. “Not the guitar not the guitar not the guitar,” wrote another.
Known for chartbusters like Summer High, Brown Munde, Scars and Real talk, Dhillon collaborated with Amazon Prime Video in 2022 to promote The Boys Season 3, featuring an exclusive version of his song Insane in the trailer.
A documentary about Dhillon's life, titled AP Dhillon: First of a Kind, premiered on Prime Video last year.
The 23rd Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is currently unfolding at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, Shakira, Kesha, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber are performing at this year’s festival that is being held in two parts — April 12-14 and April 19-21.
