Kirsten Dunst plays a journalist on a journey across a dystopian nation amidst severe political unrest in the latest trailer of Alex Garland's new action-packed war drama Civil War.
Dropped by production house A24 on Thursday, the minute-long trailer transports us to a time in future when the United States is in a state of internal conflict. Nick Offerman plays the president of a divided nation at war with its own citizens. "It is 100% American," claims Jesse Plemons’s soldier, a statement that resonates not just with the film's plot but also with its setting and ensemble cast.
The film also stars Dune actor Stephen McKinley Henderson. The trailer offers a glimpse of violent explosions engulfing the whole country amidst escalating political tension.
Cailee Spaeny essays the role of a young journalist in the upcoming film. “I have never been scared like that before and I have never felt more alive,” says the actress, as she hides behind a car during a commotion.
Guerilla warfare seems to be the order of the day and footage blending scenes of journalists and soldiers indicate that both the military and the media are prominently involved in the uprising.
The official synopsis of the film reads: “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge.”
Civil War will release in theaters on April 12.
