CinemaCon 2023: What to expect from Disney, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros. Discovery

The convention held in Las Vegas dropped trailers of Insidious: The Red Door, The Flash, A Haunting in Venice and M:I-Dead Reckoning Part One, among others

CinemaCon 2023, the world’s largest movie industry exposition held recently in Las Vegas, released trailers and teasers of some of the most highly-anticipated films from Disney, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Here are some of the major announcements made at CinemaCon 2023:

Sony Pictures: The content slate showcased by Sony Pictures at CinemaCon 2023 included trailers and movie clips from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Kraven The Hunter, Gran Turismo: The Movie, Bad Boys 4, and the first look of Ridley Scott’s Napoleon.

A 14-minute-long footage of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was showcased at the event, in the presence of Shameik Moore, who voices Miles Morales, and Hailee Steinfeld, the voice of Gwen.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays the title role in Kraven the Hunter, released the film’s two-minute teaser virtually. The film also stars Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola, Ariana DeBose and Christopher Abbott.

Academy award winner Denzel Washington unveiled the first trailer of The Equalizer 3, where Washington reprises his role as a former government assassin Robert McCall.

Orlando Bloom and David Harbour showcased the new trailer for Gran Turismo: The Movie, which is based on the life of Gran Turismo player Jann Mardenborough. An extended trailer of Insidious: The Red Door and footage from Ghostbusters: Afterlife were also unveiled.

Warner Bros. Discovery: The trailers of three DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies — The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — were released at CinemaCon 2023, apart from peeks into upcoming movies including Dune Part Two, Barbie and Wonka. Warner Bros. also confirmed that a sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice (1988) was in development.

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya joined director Denis Villeneuve for the unveiling of the trailer of Dune: Part Two, the sequel to Dune (2021). Chalamet will also be sharing screen space with Hugh Grant in Wonka, a prequel to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), the trailer for which was released at the event.

New footage from Margot Robbie-Ryan Gosling-starrer Barbie was screened at CinemaCon 2023, and the actors were joined by director Greta Gerwig.

Disney: Disney came with sneak peeks of MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels; animated movies Wish, Elemental and The Little Mermaid; and the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The trailer for A Haunting in Venice, the third instalment in Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot movie franchise, was also released. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of the movie.

The first trailer of Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins was unveiled. The sports comedy is based on the American Samoa football team’s infamous 31-0 loss to Australia in 2001.

Universal: Universal and Focus Features’ presentations at CinemaCon 2023 included glimpses of Oppenheimer, Kung Fu Panda 4, Asteroid City, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, The Holdovers, Drive-Away Dolls, and Fast X. Christopher Nolan introduced Oppenheimer to the audience at the event, adding that a full trailer of the movie may be released in theatres alongside Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Paramount Pictures: There were announcements, video footage and trailers of upcoming films — Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, Killers of the Flower Moon, Transformers One and the untitled Smurfs movie.

Paramount announced that Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One will release on July 12, 2023. They also shared a new trailer and unseen footage from the Tom Cruise-starrer.

New images from Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Moon, headlined by Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, were also released. The studio announced that Rihanna will not only be producing, writing and performing songs for the upcoming Smurfs movie but also be starring in it.

John Krasinski shared the first look of A Quiet Place: Day One. The film’s cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare.
