Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday dropped the trailer of its upcoming six-episode documentary series Cinema Marte Dum Tak, which revolves around the independent ecosystem of the ’90’s pulp Hindi cinema, branded as ‘B-grade’ films.

The series features legendary pulp film directors like J. Neelam, Vinod Talwar, Dilip Gulati and Kishan Shah alongside actors like Raza Murad, Mukesh Rishi, Harish Patel and Rakhi Sawant. The filmmakers and actors provide insights into this chapter of Indian cinema. Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor also makes an appearance in the trailer.

The two-minute-39-second-long trailer takes audiences behind the scenes with four passionate directors of that era — J Neelam, Vinod Talwar, Dilip Gulati and Kishan Shah — as they try to make a film using similar budgets and themes from 30 years ago. We also see glimpses of Arjun Kapoor talking to the four directors at a round table.

The synopsis reads, “Four unconventional directors of the golden age of pulp movies take you for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the gut-wrenching, tear-jerking, shriek-inducing low-budget genre film.”

The series is created by filmmaker Vasan Bala and Samira Kanwar for Vice Studios Production. It is co-directed by Disha Randani, Xulfee and Kulish Kant Thakur.

Bala, who is known for films like Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota and Monica, O My Darling has used pulp cinema references in his movies.

The filmmaker shared the trailer on Instagram and wrote, “PRIME GOES PULP AND HOW! Cliché but what the heck....let me say it...it's the blood sweat and tears of the entire team.”

Cinema Marte Dum Tak will be streaming on Prime Video on January 20.
