Cine-goers will get to watch films at PVR Cinemas for Rs 99 in select cities across India as part of Cinema Lovers Day, to be observed on January 20, PVR Cinemas has announced on Twitter.
The special offer, however, will not be applicable on premium categories such as recliners, IMAX and 4DX.
In the southern states — Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh — the tickets will be priced at Rs 100 + GST while audiences in Telangana will have to pay Rs 112 + GST.
The development comes months after the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) observed National Cinema Day by offering tickets for Rs 75 on September 23. The initiative was a resounding success with theatres reporting almost 100 per cent occupancy.
Cinema Lovers Day comes at a time when several Pongal releases are vying for the audience’s attention in the southern states. Viewers will now get a chance to watch Varisu, Waltair Veerayya, Veera Simha Reddy, and Thunivu at a discounted price. Moreover, a slew of new films will be hitting the cinemas this Friday, which cinephiles can enjoy at Rs 99 only.
The reduction in ticket prices is also expected to provide a push to the sales of tickets for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. The visual drama is having a dream run at the box office in India and continues to break new records. Avatar 2 has already grossed Rs 470 crore in India, crossing fan-favourite Avengers: Endgame. The slashed ticket prices are expected to make the film accessible to a wider audience.
