Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer managed to earn Rs 15.5 crore nett in India over the weekend, taking its total collection to Rs 92 crore nett so far, according to trade sources.
In contrast, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer Barbie maintained a low profile in the Indian market. With its weekend collection of Rs 6.3 crore nett, the Greta Gerwig directorial has so far raked in Rs 35.43 crore nett in India.
Oppenheimer has maintained a firm hold on the box office with Rs 14.5 crore nett on its opening day on July 21. By the end of its first week, the movie had accumulated an impressive Rs 73.27 crore nett in India. Nolan’s biographical thriller added an additional Rs 4.5 crore nett on Day 8 to its collection.
Upon its release, Barbie started at Rs 5 crore nett in India and reached a peak of Rs 7.15 crore nett on its first Sunday. The film made Rs 27.5 crore nett in the first week. However, its collection dipped significantly to Rs 1.55 crore nett on its second Friday before picking up again over the weekend.
Both Oppenheimer and Barbie have proven to be successful at the global box office, collectively surpassing USD 1 billion in ticket sales. At the end of the second weekend, Barbie grossed an impressive USD 774 million worldwide, while Oppenheimer managed to mint USD 400 million.
