Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has surpassed the milestone of Rs 150 crore at the Indian box office, fending off competition from big Bollywood films like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Gadar 2 and OMG 2, at the end of its fourth week of theatrical run.

Oppenheimer has emerged as the highest-grossing Hollywood movie to release in India in 2023, followed by Vin Diesel’s Fast X (Rs 107 crore nett) and Tom Cruise-starrer Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (Rs 103 crore nett) at second and third positions, respectively.

India is one of the few markets where Nolan's biographical thriller outperformed its competition Barbie. Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy, which released on the same day as Oppenheimer, has collected Rs 43.8 crore nett in India.

Barbie, however, outperformed Oppenheimer at the global box office. The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer recently entered the billion-dollar club in terms of global earnings. Barbie grossed an impressive USD 1.2 billion worldwide, with USD 545 million coming from the U.S. and USD 660 million from international markets.

Oppenheimer managed to earn USD 659 million globally, with USD 274 million from the US market and USD 385 million from overseas. With these earnings, Oppenheimer has emerged as the sixth highest-grossing film of the year, closely trailing behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (USD 686 million).

On the other hand, Barbie currently occupies the second spot, gradually making its way toward potentially surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie (USD 1.35 billion) as the highest-grossing movie of 2023.
