Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer breaches Rs 100 crore mark in India, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie yet to reach Rs 40 crore

Gerwig’s fantasy comedy has grossed USD 823 million worldwide, while Nolan’s biographical thriller minted USD 425 million

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has crossed the Rs 100-crore mark in India with its earning of Rs 2.4 crore nett on its 14th day, bringing its total collection in India to Rs 102.7 crore nett, according to trade reports.

On the other hand, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in lead roles, fell short of reaching Rs 40 crore nett by the end of its second week in Indian theaters. The fantasy comedy collected approximately Rs 0.75 crore nett on Day 14, raking in Rs 38.45 crore nett in India so far.

Both the films witnessed a drop in collections in the second week due to stiff competition from Karan Johar’s romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which released in theatres on July 28.

Since its release, Oppenheimer has maintained a strong grip on the box office, starting with an impressive opening day collection of Rs 14.5 crore nett on July 21. By the end of its first week, the film had accumulated an impressive Rs 73.27 crore nett in India. Barbie, on the other hand, had begun with Rs 5 crore nett in India and reached a peak of Rs 7.15 crore nett on its first Sunday. The film made Rs 27.5 crore nett in its first week.

Barbie, however, outperformed Oppenheimer at the global box office. At the end of the second week, Barbie grossed an impressive USD 823.8 million worldwide, with USD 394.5 million coming from the US and USD 429.3 million from international markets. During the same period, Oppenheimer managed to earn USD 425.3 million, with USD 194.2 million from the US market and USD 231 million from overseas.
