Director Christopher Nolan has claimed that there are “zero” Computer-generated imagery (CGI) shots in his upcoming film Oppenheimer, which features scenes of nuclear explosion.

In a recent interview with US-based entertainment portal Collider, The Dark Knight director has confirmed that no CGI was used even for filming a nuclear explosion test in the upcoming film.

The ambitious biopic on American physicist J Robert Oppenheimer sees Irish actor Cillian Murphy playing the titular role. Oppenheimer is known as the father of the atomic bomb.

The British-American filmmaker crashed an actual aeroplane in his last film Tenet (2020) and now seems to have taken Oppenheimer to a whole new level. He had earlier revealed that he didn’t employ any CGI in recreating the historic Trinity test, the first-ever test explosion of the nuclear bomb in the desert of New Mexico in 1945.

Oppenheimer also stars Matt Damon as Lieutenant General Leslie Richard Groves Jr. Emily Blunt as Katherine Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, Florence Pugh as psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie as theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano as Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett as pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.

Shot on 70 mm IMAX film cameras, Oppenheimer promises to present spectacular images and soul-stirring performances from the ensemble cast.

Oppenheimer will hit the cinemas on July 21.
