Legal drama to political thriller, here are six web series streaming on Hoichoi that are worth a weekend binge-watch.

Chemistry Mashi

Cast: Debasree Roy, Shankar Chakraborty, Ritwika Pal and Saptarshi Maulik

In her web series debut, Debasree Roy plays Sucharita Lahiri, a middle-aged homemaker who starts to give chemistry tuitions online to underprivileged students. As her YouTube channel becomes popular, Sucharita becomes the target of the owner of a chain of coaching centres. Things spin out of control when the question paper of an entrance exam leaks and it is traced to Sucharita, whose husband (played by Shankar Chakraborty) is a bureaucrat in the education department. Ritwika Pal and Saptarshi Maulik round off the cast as Sucharita’s children.

Abar Rajneeti

Abar Rajneeti is the sequel to director Sourav Chakraborty’s 2023 political drama Rajneeti, with Ditipriya Roy reprising her role as Rashi, the daughter of the influential politician Rathin Banerjee (Kaushik Ganguly) and Mallika (Koneenica Banerjee). Set in the fictional village of Rijpur, the previous season ended with Rathin suffering a heart attack during an election campaign, leaving Mallika to take charge of the party’s affairs. In Abar Rajneeti, Rathin’s estranged older brother, Pratim Banerjee (also played by Kaushik Ganguly), returns to Rijpur to everyone’s shock. Meanwhile, Rashi’s childhood friend Shaunak (Arjun Chakrabarty) emerges as a crucial player in this game of thrones.

Noshtoneer 2

Cast: Sandipta Sen, Shoumo Banerjee, Ushasi Ray, Rahul Dev Bose

The first season of Noshtoneer introduced us to Aparna (Sandipta Sen), whose peaceful domestic life came crashing down after her professor husband Rishabh (Shoumo Banerjee) was accused of harassment by a student. By the end of the season, Aparna transitioned from a fierce defender of her husband to a disillusioned spouse. In this instalment, the entry of a mysterious neighbour (Ushasi Ray) poses a threat to Rishabh’s life even as Aparna discovers even more damning evidence of her husband’s misdeeds.

Boka Bakshote Bondi

Boka Bakshote Bondi revolves around Apala, a television actress, played by Solanki Roy. The story begins with Apala preparing for the final day of shoot of her popular series Mon Sohager Ghor, in which she stars as the lead character, Sandhyamoni. However, she finds herself unable to leave the set even after the shoot wraps up. Her on-screen husband, played by Neel, reveals that the set is her real home and that the cast members of the show are her family.

Cast: Ritwick Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Surangana Bandhopadhyay, Dulal Lahiri, Loknath Dey

Adv. Achinta Aich is a legal drama that follows the journey of a sharp-witted lawyer Achinta Aich (Ritwick Chakraborty) who takes on challenging cases that often intertwine with social issues. The story begins with the death of a sarod player, Pablo Dutta (Sanmitra Bhaumik)). Pablo’s wife Malini (Surangana Bandyopadhyay) is accused of his murder by his family. When prominent lawyer Sitaram Ganguly (Saswata Chatterjee) is hired by the Dutta family, Achinta Aich steps in to defend Malini, believing that she has been framed in the murder.

Chhabi Biswas

Directed by: Rahool Mukherjee

Cast: Subham, Subhashish Mukhopadhyay, Anuradha Mukherjee, Kinjal Nanda

An underrated gem, Rahool Mukherjee’s web series Chhabi Biswas revolves around a loner (Subham) named after the yesteryear actor. Chhabi’s father was a cinematographer (played by Subhashish Mukhopadhyay), who was an admirer of the veteran actor Chhabi Biswas. Ridden with debt, Chhabi logs into the dark web to make money and stumbles upon a game where posting videos of killing people can get him a quick buck. The lure of money turns Chhabi into a serial killer. Anuradha Mukherjee plays Chhabi’s tenant, while Kinjal Nanda plays a cop investigating the murders.
