Kartik Aaryan’s latest film Chandu Champion marked the lowest box-office opening for the actor since 2017 with a Day 1 collection of Rs. 4.75 crore, almost half of his last theatrical release Satyaprem Ki Katha, as per records with industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk.

Kartik's previous release, Satyaprem Ki Katha, earned Rs 8.25 crore nett on its opening day last year, while Shehzada (2023) earned Rs 6 crore nett on Day 1. His 2017 film Guest in London (2017) earned Rs 2.1 crore nett on Day 1.

Chandu Champion tells the story of India's first Paralympics gold medalist Murlikant Petkar.

Chandu Champion had an overall occupancy rate of 16.84 per cent, with ticket prices set at Rs 150 on Friday. In Mumbai, with 723 shows, occupancy was at 19.25 per cent, while in Delhi-NCR, with 870 shows, it was 19.50 per cent.

This lacklustre opening continues Kabir Khan's streak of underwhelming box office performances. His last film, 83, featuring Ranveer Singh, debuted with Rs 12.64 crore nett but its run was curtailed by a new wave of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Abhay Verma and Sharvari Wagh-starrer Munjya began its second week in theatres on a strong note, minting Rs 3.75 crore nett on Friday. With a collection of Rs 36.5 crore nett in the first week, the horror-comedy’s total domestic earnings now stand at Rs 40.25 crore nett.
