Chaalchitra Ekhon chronicles the genesis of Mrinal Sen's masterpiece, Chaalchitra (1981). It has been honoured with accolades such as the Special Jury Award at Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 for Innovation in Moving Images and the best actor award for Anjan Dutt at the Dhaka International Film Festival 2024.

Anjan Dutt plays the role of Kunal Sen in Chaalchitra Ekhon, a character modelled after his mentor Mrinal Sen. Debutant Sawon Chakraborty plays Ranjan Dutt, his protege, while Bidipta Chakraborty plays the director's wife.

“Mrinal Sen's impact on Indian cinema is immeasurable; he didn't just make films, he reshaped narratives, challenged conventions, and inspired generations of filmmakers. Chaalchitra Ekhon not only pays homage to Sen's cinematic brilliance but also seeks to ignite a new wave of appreciation for his enduring legacy,” Anjan Dutt said.

At its core, the film celebrates the dynamic relationship between mentor and disciple, embodied by Kunal and Ranjan. Through their collaborative journey on an ambitious film project, they confront inner demons, societal pressures, and ultimately find solace in Kolkata’s rich cultural tapestry.
