Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett’s Borderlands, the cinematic adaptation of a renowned video game franchise of the same name, will hit theatres worldwide on August 9, makers Lionsgate Films announced on Tuesday.
“Who do you gotta ask to get a damn spare tire on this planet? #BorderlandsMovie- experience it in theaters and IMAX August 9,” Lionsgate Films wrote alongside a still from the video game on Instagram.
Directed by filmmaker Eli Roth and penned by screenwriter Craig Mazin, the movie promises to faithfully translate the video game's distinctive blend of action, humour, and excitement to the big screen.
The ensemble cast of the film includes Cate Blanchett as the enigmatic Lilith and Kevin Hart as Roland, a battle-hardened soldier. The supporting cast includes actors Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and Florian Munteanu.
Borderlands follows the perilous journey of a disparate group of adventurers as they seek to unravel the mysteries of the enigmatic planet Pandora. With its richly detailed world-building and eccentric characters, the film aims to captivate both devotees of the game and newcomers.
Cate Blanchett last appeared in the film Tár in 2022. The film is based on Lydia Tár, a renowned musician, who faces challenges on the eve of recording her career-defining symphony. Her adopted daughter Petra becomes her emotional anchor.
