The cast of Grey's Anatomy — Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, James Pickens, Chandra Wilson and Justin Chambers — reunited on stage to present the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series at the 75th Primetime Emmys on Monday.
The actors gathered in a makeshift hospital room set on the Emmy stage and took the opportunity to reflect on the show’s remarkable journey.
As the audience erupted in cheers, Pompeo, who portrays the resilient Meredith Grey, kicked off the trip down memory lane. “When the first episode aired in March 2005, Shonda was not sure she knew she created a show that had a lasting imprint,” Pompeo reminisced.
Pickens, who plays Dr Richard Webber, emphasised the show's longevity by stating, “Over 400 episodes and counting! It’s a tribute to everyone who’s been a part of our family.”
Chambers, who bid farewell to the series in 2020, chimed in, “Oh yes, there have been some changes over the years, but one thing that has remained a constant is the wonderful fan base.”
Heigl, whose character Izzie Stevens left the show in 2010, injected humour into the reunion. “There have been some changes over the years, but one thing that has remained a constant is the wonderful fan base.”
Chandra Wilson, who portrays the no-nonsense Miranda Bailey, proudly declared that they are officially the longest-running primetime medical drama. Closing the memorable moment, Pickens expressed gratitude to the fans, stating, “And it would not be possible without you.”
The Grey’s Anatomy reunion was part of a series of mini-reunions manufactured by producers during the 75th anniversary of the Emmys. Other notable reunions included Lorraine Bracco and Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos and Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, and Anthony Payne III from Martin.
The 75th Primetime Emmys is streaming exclusively on Lionsgate Play in India.
