Anthony Mackie’s Captain America takes on Harrison Ford’s alter-ego Red Hulk in the latest trailer of Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World, dropped by the makers on Sunday.
The two-minute-37-second-long trailer begins with Mackie interrogating Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), a super-soldier who was experimented on 30 years ago. Bradley is now imprisoned for an alleged attack on U.S. President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford). Subsequent scenes introduce us to Ford’s newly elected president Thaddeus Ross, who is determined to keep Mackie at arm’s length as he hunts for a mole within his administration.
“You’re not Steve Rogers,” Ross remarks, challenging Mackie’s Captain America, who carries the iconic shield passed down by Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.
What follows is a montage of adrenaline-fueled action: explosive ship battles, mid-air helicopter destruction, and intense combat sequences. Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito makes a striking appearance as G.W. Bridge in the trailer. It ends with Ford’s transformation into the formidable Red Hulk, setting the stage for an epic showdown as Mackie readies himself for battle.
Chris Evans portrayed Steve Rogers in three previous Captain America films and four Avengers movies. During the finale of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Rogers decided to give up on his superhero suit and return to the past to live out the rest of his days with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). He entrusted his vibranium shield to Wilson, who vowed to keep his legacy alive.
Danny Ramirez has reprised his role as former Air Force lieutenant Joaquin Torres in Captain America: Brave New World. Tim Blake Nelson has also returned as Samuel Sterns aka The Leader, a character that last appeared in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk. Shira Haas has joined as Ruth Bat-Seraph, a former Black Widow who is now a high-ranking US government official.
Directed by Julius Onah and adapted from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson and Matthew Orton, Captain America: Brave New World is slated to hit theatres worldwide on February 14, 2025.
