Cannes Palme d’Or-winning film Anora, featuring Mikey Madison and Mark Eidelstein, is set to hit Indian theatres on November 8, Universal Pictures India announced on social media on Saturday.
“Widely accredited #Anora is releasing in theatres near you! Curious about all the buzz? Then you must experience Anora’s story on the big screen, starting Nov 8,” wrote the film studio on its official X handle alongside a poster of the film.
Anora, a dark comedy, narrates the story of Anora, a 23-year-old sex worker from Brooklyn, who finds herself in a Cinderella-like story after marrying Ivan Zakharov, the son of a wealthy oligarch. However, her newfound happiness is soon at risk when his influential parents in Russia learn of the marriage and come to New York.
Directed by Sean Baker, the film also stars Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan and Aleksei Serebryakov in pivotal roles.
Anora premiered on May 21, 2024, in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d'Or, becoming the first American film to win the award since The Tree of Life in 2011. Film production company Neon released the film in theatres on October 18, 2024.
The film was screened at several prominent film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. Anora was also the closing film at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2024.
