Ananya Panday’s rich and privileged South Delhi girl tries to adapt to middle-class ways in Mumbai after getting disowned by her billionaire family in the trailer of Prime Video’s upcoming series Call Me Bae, dropped by the streamer on Tuesday.

The two-minute-34-second-long trailer shows Ananya’s Bae learning to survive in Mumbai without the comforts of her lavish life. The trailer opens with Bae’s voiceover in which she describes herself as a girl born with a “golden spoon”. Once living in the lap of luxury with seven high-end cars, a private chopper and a fairytale wedding on the horizon, Bae’s life takes a sharp turn when she loses everything. Now, she must navigate the challenges of a middle-class existence in Mumbai, deprived of the opulence she once took for granted.

After being disowned, Bae relocates to Mumbai, where she’s thrown into a world that couldn’t be more different from her former life. From navigating the city in auto rickshaws to job hunting, she feels like a fish out of water in her new surroundings.

Bae’s disbelief at the everyday realities of middle-class life—whether it’s seeing people eat white bread or being overconfident through job interviews—leads to a series of hilarious moments, as Ananya captures the humour and awkwardness of a girl trying to adapt to a lifestyle she has never known.

Vir Das also features in the trailer as Ananya’s boss at a media organisation. Vihaan Samat plays Bae’s husband, while Muskkaan Jaferi and Niharika Lyra Dutt play her friends Saira and Taamarrah.

Bae’s fashion choices in the upcoming series are reminiscent of the 2006 comedy The Devil Wears Prada starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.

Also starring Gurfateh Singh Pirzada, Lisa Mishra and Mini Mathur, Call Me Bae is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under the banner of Dharmatic Entertainment. It is slated to hit the streamer on September 6.
