Actress Brie Larson has revealed that her favourite thing as a jury at the 76th Cannes Film Festival is to “just walk into a film not knowing what it is”.

The Room actress has made her debut as a member of the jury at the Feature Film section of Cannes 2023 and is one of the persons entrusted with deciding on the recipient of this year’s Palme d’Or.

“My favourite thing is to just walk into a film not knowing what it is and having no expectation, no understanding, like don’t see a trailer, nothing. So I feel like I’ve been preparing for this experience,” the actress is heard saying this in a clip shared by the festival authorities on their official Instagram handle.

Accompanying her on the jury are Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund, French director Julia Ducournau, Argentine director Damián Szifron, Zambian filmmaker Rungano Nyoni, The Fablemans actor Paul Dano, French writer Atiq Rahimi, Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani and Peter Von Kant actor Denis Ménochet.

The 33-year-old actress, who considers herself a ‘big movie buff’, also said that she tries to watch one film every day. When asked about her favourite film, Brie said, “I’ve watched Boogie Nights (1997), maybe the most of any movie. Maybe The Princess Bride (1987) and Boogie Nights, which is a strange dichotomy.”

The Captain Marvel star further talked about how she was preparing to be a juror for the French film festival. “I'm excited to watch these films. I think we have an incredible selection on the jury this year and I’m excited for the conversations. I love talking about films, so. That this is my job is quite fortunate,” she said.

Besides acting as a jury member, Larson turned heads with her fashion statement at the film festival this year. She dressed up in a dull gold Chanel gown on the first day of Cannes. The actress is currently gearing up for the release of two upcoming Marvel films – The Marvels (2023) and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025).
