Renée Zellweger’s Bridget Jones is a widow and a single mother struggling to muster the courage to fall in love in the latest trailer of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the fourth film in the iconic romantic comedy franchise.
Dropped by Universal Pictures, the two-minute-31-second-long trailer offers a peek into Bridget’s life four years after the untimely death of her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). The beloved romantic comedy heroine is seen grappling with the challenges of raising her young children with help from her friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant).
Pressured by her Urban Family — Shazzer, Jude and Tom, her work colleague Miranda, her mother, and her gynaecologist Dr. Rawlings — Bridget embarks on a new journey of love. She goes back to work and tries out dating apps where she comes across a much-younger and charming man, played by White Lotus actor Leo Woodall.
The returning cast includes Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones as Bridget’s parents and new members like Isla Fisher, who plays Bridget’s neighbour Rebecca.
Directed by Michael Morris and adapted from Helen Fielding’s novel, the upcoming film is produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner under the banner of Working Title.
The film is executive produced by Helen Fielding, Renée Zellweger, Amelia Granger and Sarah-Jane Wright. Working Title has previously produced all the Bridget Jones films.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is slated to release in theatres globally next year.
