Popular period drama Bridgerton will return to Netflix with its third season in May 2024, the streamer announced on Tuesday, further revealing that the upcoming instalment will release in two parts — first on May 16 and the second on June 13 next year.
Sharing a clip on its official Instagram handle, Netflix US wrote, “rejoice in this most thrilling news. BRIDGERTON Season 3 shall debut in two parts: part 1 on may 16th and part 2 on june 13th.”
The bifurcated release strategy has elicited mixed response from the audience. While many are thrilled, the two-part release has disappointed quite a few. “Who told y'all we need shows in two parts? Can we just get everything all at once?” commented a fan on Instagram.
The third season of the Regency era drama, set in London, deviates from the original sequence of the novels by Julia Quinn on which it is based. Starring Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, the next instalment is expected to narrate the progress from friendship to love as Colin Bridgerton begins questioning his real feelings for Penelope Featherington.
The trailer promises the return of many beloved characters including Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, Violet, Eloise Bridgerton and the infamous gossip writer Lady Whistledown.
The Shondaland series also features Adjoa Andoh, Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page, Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley. While Season 1 of Bridgerton (released in December 2020) explored the steaming romance between Daphne and Simon, Season 2 (released in March 2022) was all about the Viscount Anthony falling in love. The spin-off prequel, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, debuted in March 2023. Bridgerton has already been renewed for Season 4.
