Bridgerton actress Charithra Chandran will play the role of Miss Wednesday, a codename for Princess Vivi of Alabasta, in the second season of Netflix’s hit One Piece live-action series, the streamer announced on Friday.
“Her past is shrouded in secrecy but her skills as a Baroque Works agent are unmatched. Here’s your first look at the face of Miss Wednesday,” Netflix wrote on Instagram alongside a collage of the actress with her character from the anime adaptation.
“Hey guys! I’m so excited to be joining the cast of One Piece and I feel incredibly grateful to Oda sensei for trusting me with the role of Vivi. I know how much she means to all of you and I’m going to work my hardest to do her justice and make you all proud. See you soon,” the 27-year-old actress said in a video shared by Netflix.
Chandran is known for playing the role of Edwina Sharma, Kate Sharma’s sister, in Netflix’s hit Regency Era drama series Bridgerton. Apart from that, she has also played roles in films like How to Date Billy Walsh, Eternals and Alex Rider. The actress is reportedly going to be seen next in Dune: Prophecy.
In Eiichiro Oda’s manga and the anime adaptation, Princess Vivi first appeared in the Reverse Mountain Arc as a bounty hunter working for Baroque Works under the codename Miss Wednesday. Following the events of the Whiskey Peak Arc where she was discovered as a spy plotting against Baroque Works, Vivi had joined Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates on their journey through Alabasta Kingdom.
Season 2 of One Piece is currently in its second month of production in Cape Town, South Africa. The upcoming instalment will cover Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden and Drum Island arcs.
Set in the world of pirates, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who sets sail with his wacky crew on a perilous journey across the Grand Line to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the Pirate King. The anime adaptation of the manga series, which began in 1997, is currently ongoing with over 1,000 episodes. Starring Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar, One Piece live-action series topped Netflix’s top 10 global list for weeks after its debut on August 31 last year.
