While Suriya’s latest period action drama Kanguva underperformed at the Indian box office in its first week of theatrical run, Shah Rukh Khan’s 2003 film Kal Ho Naa Ho witnessed a decent Week 1 upon its re-release, according to latest trade reports.
Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again and Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 inched closer to the Rs 250-crore mark domestically during this period — their third week in theatres.
Despite high expectations, Kanguva struggled to leave a significant mark, collecting Rs 64.40 crore nett in its first eight days, as per industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk. The film, which opened with Rs 24 crore nett on its debut Thursday, saw a steep decline in earnings as early as its second day, when it brought in Rs 9.5 crore nett.
On Saturday, the Siva-directed fantasy thriller raked in Rs 9.85 crore nett, followed by Rs 10.25 crore nett on Sunday. Also starring Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, Kanguva minted Rs 8.8 crore nett from Monday to Wednesday. On its second Thursday, the film collected Rs 2 crore crore nett.
Meanwhile, the box office battle between Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 continued in the third week. Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, has collected Rs 236.15 crore in 21 days, while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, helmed by Anees Bazmee, has earned Rs 239.65 crore nett so far.
Vikrant Massey-starrer The Sabarmati Report, which released on November 15, ended its first week in theatres with a collection of Rs 11.5 crore nett. Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II wrapped up its first week in Indian theatres, amassing Rs 7.84 crore nett in seven days.
Nikkhil Advani’s 2003 blockbuster Kal Ho Naa Ho, which re-released in theatres last week, is having a dream run at the box office. The romantic drama starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta has raked in Rs 2.25 crore gross in the first week.
