Box office: Jigra, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video fail Monday test

Alia Bhatt’s jailbreak thriller has earned Rs 18.10 crore in India, while Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s comedy film collected Rs 21.05 crore

Dussehra releases Jigra, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Vettaiyan witnessed a huge drop in collections on Monday, according to latest trade reports.

Alia Bhatt’s latest jailbreak thriller Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, opened to moderate numbers, collecting Rs 4.55 crore nett on Friday, with a slight rise on Saturday to Rs 6.55 crore nett, before stabilising at Rs 5.5 crore nett on Sunday. However, on Monday, the collections plunged by nearly 70 per cent to Rs 1.5 crore nett, according to industry-tracking platform Sacnilk. The film’s total box office collection stands at Rs 18.10 crore nett.

Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, performed slightly better, starting with Rs 5.5 crore nett on Day 1, peaking at Rs 6.9 crore nett on Saturday, and adding another Rs 6.4 crore nett on Sunday. Its Monday collection dropped by 65 per cent to Rs 2.25 crore nett, taking the film’s four-day total to Rs 21.05 crore nett.

In the South, superstar Rajinikanth’s action drama Vettaiyan, also starring Amitabh Bachchan, experienced a major decline in its box office collection on Monday. After a promising weekend that brought in Rs 110 crore nett nationwide, with Rs 22.3 crore nett on Sunday alone, the film’s Monday earnings plummeted to Rs 5.35 crore nett — a 75 per cent drop.

However, Vettaiyan remains buoyed by Rajinikanth’s star power and loyal fanbase, particularly in Tamil Nadu. The film’s global earnings for the weekend reached Rs 189 crore gross.

Vettaiyan has emerged as the second highest-grossing Tamil film of the year, behind only Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time, which ended its global run at Rs 451 crore gross.
