Elijah Wood plays a failed illusionist who embarks on an adventure into the wilderness in New Zealand with his teenage daughter Mildred (Nell Fisher) in the trailer of Bookworm, dropped by the makers on Tuesday.

The two-minute-16-second-long trailer begins with Fisher’s Mildred introducing herself as a voracious reader who loves to pore over books in her rustic reading room. Opening up about how she is “borderline obsessed to tell the truth”, Mildred says that school is like heaven for her. Besides reading, Mildred loves to hunt, fish and get involved in the “stuff of adventures”. However, she remains indifferent when her father long-absent Strawn (Wood) shows up on her door.

After Mildred narrates the story of a mythical black panther living in the heart of New Zealand’s forests, Strawn’s curiosity is piqued. The father-daughter duo leave the very next day to find the fabled animal.

From trekking mountains to coming face to face with dangerous animals in the forest, Mildred and Strawn solidify their bond through humour, determination and a shared passion for adventures.

“In the midst of a family crisis, a washed-up American illusionist (Elijah Wood) and his long-estranged precocious daughter (Nell Fisher) venture into the New Zealand wilderness in search of a mythical black panther. Starring Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Morgana O’Reilly (Housebound), Michael Smiley (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and introducing Nell Fisher,” reads the description of the trailer on YouTube.

Directed by Ant Timpson and written by Toby Harvard, Bookworm also stars Michael Smiley, Vanessa Stacey and Morgana O’Reilly. The film is produced by Emma Slade, Roxi Bull, Victoria Dabbs, Mette-Marie Kongsved and Laura Tunstall.
