“Happy birthday my Jaan,” Kapoor captioned the portrait posted on Instagram on Tuesday.

After tying the knot in 1996, Sridevi and Kapoor welcomed their first daughter, Janhvi, in 1997. Their second child, Khushi, was born three years later in 2000.

Both Janhvi and Khushi also shared photos with their mother from the family album on the occasion. Khushi, who made her acting debut with Zoya Akhtar’s 2023 teen musical comedy The Archies, posted a photo of her with mum Sridevi and elder sister Janhvi.

Janhvi, too, shared a series of pictures, remembering her mother on the special day. The carousel includes a photo of the Tirumala Tirupati temple, a place Sridevi often visited. Another image captures a young Janhvi posing with her mother, while the last photo shows the 27-year-old actress wearing what appears to be her mother's sari.

“Happy Birthday Mumma. I love you,” Janhvi wrote in the caption of the photos.

Sridevi, a Bollywood icon of the 1980s, passed away in her hotel room in Dubai in 2018 while attending a nephew’s wedding. The cause of her death was declared to be “accidental drowning” in a bathtub following a loss of consciousness.

Sridevi’s last on-screen appearance was in Aanand L. Rai's film Zero (2018) in a cameo role. Her 2017 film Mom earned the actress a posthumous National Film Award for Best Actress at the 65th edition of the awards.

Sisters Janhvi and Khushi recently opened up about their mother’s sudden demise on Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 11. Janhvi recalled the moment she heard the news, describing how she had rushed into Khushi's room to find her sister crying. "But the moment she looked at me, she stopped crying and started comforting me. I have never seen her cry since,” said Janhvi to host Karan Johar at the celebrity talk show.

Khushi admitted that it took her a while to process her loss. After their mother’s death, Janhvi and Khushi got closer to Arjun and Anshula Kapoor, their father’s children from his previous marriage. “It’s nice to have more people to ask stupid, silly questions all the time. They helped us to hold it together,” said Khushi about her step-siblings.

On the work front, Khushi is expected to star in the film Naadaniyaan, slated to hit theatres later this year, while Janhvi is set to make her Telugu cinema debut with Devara alongside Jr. NTR. Devara is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 27.

Additionally, Janhvi is set to star opposite Varun Dhawan in Dharma Productions’ upcoming romcom Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The Mr. & Mrs. Mahi actress will also collaborate with actor Ram Charan for the first time for the second Telugu film of her career.
