Filmmaker Boney Kapoor hinted at a possible sequel or remake of his 1987 fantasy drama Mr. India on the Anil Kapoor and Sridevi-starrer’s 37th anniversary, dropping behind-the-scenes photos from the sets of the film in a montage video on Saturday.

"Wristwatch of invisibility still in orbit. It completes 37 years #MrIndia. Getting recharged to work the magic again," Boney wrote alongside the video on Instagram.

The video includes a set of posters, stills of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, and Amrish Puri in his iconic Mogambo avatar. One photo shows Boney in conversation with screenwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Mr. India tells the story of Arun Verma (Anil), a humble violinist and philanthropist who discovers a device that grants him invisibility. He rents out his house to pay debts and meets journalist Seema Sahni (Sridevi) with whom he eventually falls in love. Meanwhile, the villainous Mogambo (Puri) plans to conquer India.

Principal photography for the film, handled by Baba Azmi, took place in Srinagar, Mumbai, and other locations in India, starting in July 1985 and lasting 350 days. Laxmikant–Pyarelal composed the soundtrack, with lyrics by Akhtar. Editing was done by Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali, with special effects by Peter Pereira.

Mr. India was released on May 25, 1987 and it became the second highest-grossing film of the year at the domestic box office after the Dharmendra-starrer Hukumat.

In 2011, Boney Kapoor reportedly announced a 3D sequel, Mr. India 2, expected for release in November 2014. However, the film was never produced.

Anil Kapoor later admitted that Sridevi's death in February 2018 and the absence of Puri (who died in January 2005) had affected the production.
