Daniel Craig’s final 007 outing, return of a 'maverick' we love, master filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s spy epic, a new film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse… 2020 promises a Holly fan’s bounty. The Telegraph looks forward to the 10 we can’t wait to watch

Mulan

Release: March 27

The 1998 original Disney animated feature won our hearts with its tale of a young Chinese woman who joins the army, pretending to be a boy. Directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider and North Country fame) comes the live-action version of Mulan featuring Liu Yifei. If the trailer is anything to go by, we are most excited about some stunning cinematography and beautiful action sequences.

No Time to Die

Release: April 8

Daniel Craig’s back and so is criminal mastermind Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Christoph Waltz). Remember how Blofeld was arrested in the final scene of the last Bond movie, Spectre? Well, we can’t wait to see what happened to him after that. But hang on, we also have another baddie this time - Rami Malek, the main villain Safin. More the bad guys, more hell for Mr Bond.

Promising Young Woman

Release: April 17

The trailer of Promising Young Woman starring Carey Mulligan looks deliciously promising with a classical strings cover of Britney Spears’ Toxic playing in the background. Mulligan appears to star as some sort of a vigilante who goes to nightclubs pretending to be very drunk. When a man brings her back home, she doles out justice to the creepy guys in her own way. 'Every week, I go to a club and act like I’m too drunk to stand. And every week a nice guy comes over to see if I’m okay,' says the voiceover. This is the kind of revenge movies women deserve in this #MeToo era.

Black Widow

Release: May 1

Marvel fans or not, you must already be aware of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson)’s fate in last year’s Avengers: Endgame. But this prequel promises us to show how Nat was trained as a spy in Russia’s Red Room prior to her joining S.H.I.E.L.D. We are hoping to see a few more familiar faces from the MCU to make a cameo appearance (especially keeping our fingers crossed for Iron Man).

The Personal History of David Copperfield

Release: May 8

Looks like this is going to be super funny and super entertaining. Dev Patel stars in the titular role in Armando Iannucci’s comedy-drama adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1850 classic. David Copperfield, Dickens’ first novel (narrated entirely in the first person), follows the adventures of an orphan travelling through poverty and finally finding his calling as a writer. This film has already swooped up five awards at the recently held British Independent Film Awards.

Wonder Woman 1984

Release: June 5

Marvel’s back, so is DC. The Wonder Woman sequel, starring the fiery Gal Gadot, jumps around seven decades since the 2017 film and is ably supported by some groovy 80s background music. But we have questions, including how is Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) back from the dead?

Top Gun: Maverick

Release: June 26

Remember drooling over Tom Cruise in his navy uniform and black aviators in the 1986 action drama Top Gun? Thirty four years later, Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell is back to train and leads the next generation of combat pilots. The sequel also stars Miles Teller (as Goose’s son), Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer and Glen Powell.

Tenet

Release: July 17

Christopher Nolan’s next. Do we even need any more reasons to watch it? Starring names like Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine and our very own Dimple Kapadia; Tenet revolves around international espionage. Nolan is teaming up again with his Interstellar and Dunkirk cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema but not, interestingly, with his music composer of many years, Hans Zimmer. Instead, Oscar-winning Black Panther composer Ludwig Goransson has been roped in for the film’s score.

Death on the Nile

Release: October 9

Detective Hercule Poirot returns to screen after 2017’s highly enjoyable Murder on the Orient Express with Kenneth Branagh in the director’s chair and as the mustachioed Belgian like last time. Branagh is joined by big names like Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Annette Bening and Rose Leslie. It also stars Ali Fazal who’s been getting accent training by a dialect teacher for the role.

Godzilla vs. Kong

Release: November 20

It’s self explanatory. A sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla vs. Kong will see two powerful monsters face each other in an epic battle. Helmed by You’re Next director Adam Wingard, the film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Eiza González, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. Who wouldn’t want to watch this epic showdown?
