Actor Boman Irani on Tuesday recalled playing the role of the arrogant professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe aka Virus in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots while addressing students at IIM Bangalore, where a major part of the Aamir Khan-starrer was shot 15 years ago.

Sharing a collage of a still from the 2009 film and a recent photo of himself addressing students on the same stage of the university on Instagram, the 64-year-old wrote, “15 years ago, I stood on this very stage at IIM Bangalore, bringing ‘Virus’ to life in #3Idiots. Today, I return, overwhelmed by the love and support that continues to pour in. It was truly special to connect with the students and relive those cherished memories.”

“Grateful for the journey, for Rajkumar Hirani’s brilliant direction, and for the incredible team that made it all possible. Honored to be back where it all began,” he added.

Fans flooded the comments section with their love and support for the actor. “Wow it’s a whole 15 years. You’re an icon @boman_irani,” one of them wrote. “Love you sir your character and performance was legendary in the movie,” another fan wrote. Comedian and YouTuber Bhuvan Bam commented, “You’re an icon in every sense.”

Boman played the strict, arrogant and highly competitive director of the engineering college, known for his authoritarian and rigid approach to education, in the blockbuster.

Adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone, 3 Idiots follows the story of three engineering students — played by Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R. Madhavan — as they navigate the pressures of academic life in India.

On the work front, Boman was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal.
