Sandipta Sen, who recently tied the knot with Soumya Mukherjee, chatted with us about Bodhon Season 2, completing 15 years in the industry and life after marriage.

Congratulations on getting married! Did you have fun at your wedding?

Sandipta Sen: Yes, of course! All my family members had great fun too. Our Sangeet and wedding ceremonies were planned outdoors but we had to shift inside because of the rains. We were a little sad about it initially but then we treated the rains as a blessing.

How is life post-marriage?

Sandipta Sen: Our relationship began two years and two months ago, and nothing has changed after marriage. I used to stay with my parents earlier; now I stay in my house and in his house too. I don’t think there’s been any difference in my life post-marriage. We never lived-in together. I don’t believe in live-in relationships. I wanted to get married and stay together.

Bodhon Season 2, where you play the lead role of Raka Sen, has started streaming on Hoichoi...

Sandipta Sen: Yes, in Season 2, Raka Sen is married and for her honeymoon she goes to a place called Pilpur where she finds malpractices such as witch hunt, child marriage and trafficking are rampant. Raka is someone who fights for the truth. She becomes a catalyst for change in this ominous and isolated place, and in the process becomes a victim of one of these crimes. This season shows a more vulnerable side of Raka.

You have some action scenes in Bodhon 2. How was that experience?

Sandipta Sen: I have done action scenes in quite a few mega serials. I love doing them. There was no action director in Bodhon 2, so doing it was quite a challenge. My co-actor Indrasish Roy and I had many chase sequences, and I had to drive a lot though I am not a regular driver. This is the first time I drove a car for the camera. During the shoot, there is a lot of camera equipment attached to the car. I had to be conscious of that while driving. It was quite a challenge.

Noshtoneer, Bodhon, Shikarpur – the roles you are playing have quite a bit of variety. What are your criteria for choosing a role?

Sandipta Sen: After learning about a character, I need to feel the kick to want to play it. I am very selective about my projects. With the work I have done so far, I have received a lot of love from the audience and those roles have been quite prominent. I need to feel challenged and satisfied.

You transitioned from television to OTT. How do you think the streaming space is helping actors?

Sandipta Sen: The entertainment industry is witnessing a boom in employment. OTT is a medium where we are doing a lot of experiments. I have taken a break from TV mega serials because I want to do different, experimental work. In television serials, we have to play a character for a long time. Good actors are getting better roles and opportunities on OTT. I want the audience to be more accepting of the content we are producing.

You have completed 15 years in the industry. How have you evolved as an actor?

Sandipta Sen: I analyse myself. When I started out I used to feel that my performance wasn’t good enough, but I have improved and worked on myself. Every day is a learning experience for me. I break myself down and start from zero. Getting a compliment from the audience is the best thing ever. But I always tell myself that I’m still learning and trying.

What are you working on next?

Sandipta Sen: I have quite a few projects lined up which I can’t talk about right now. Let’s hope for the best.
